The Executive Hub

Vanessa Leaver

Speech Pathologist | Executive Coach | Mama to three

For the child who can't get started.
The teen who feels overwhelmed.
The parent who is tired of reminding.
The teacher who knows there's more going on.

The Executive Hub helps make the skills underneath it all visible, teachable and achievable.

Hi, I'm Vanessa.

Speech pathologist. Executive functioning coach. Mum. Professional problem-solver.

For more than 15 years, I've worked with children, teens, families and educators to understand the skills that sit underneath successful learning and everyday life.

My speech pathology background taught me to look closely at how people understand, communicate and learn.

My work in executive functioning taught me to ask a different question:

“What is getting in the way of this person actually doing what they know?”

The Executive Hub brings those two worlds together.

Big Ideas, Real Impact.

For years, I’ve seen the same frustrating gap: knowing what to do, but not being able to make it happen.

We expect children and teens to get started, stay organised, manage emotions, remember, plan and problem-solve — but we don’t always teach the skills underneath those expectations.

And when those skills are missing, everyone feels it — the child, the parent and the educator.

Child

“I know it. I just can’t seem to do it.”

  • Understands the instructions but can't get started

  • Knows the answer but struggles to explain it

  • Forgets what they need, even when they've been reminded

  • Gets overwhelmed by tasks that seem simple to others

  • Struggles when plans change or things don't go their way

  • Knows they should be organised but doesn't know how

  • Can do something brilliantly one day — then can't seem to do it the next

  • Starts with good intentions but loses track halfway through

  • Feels frustrated when everyone seems to expect them to “just know”

  • Begins to see themselves as lazy, disorganised or “bad at school”

The frustration:
“Why is something that seems so easy for everyone else so hard for me?”

Parent

“I’m exhausted from being the executive function.”

  • Constantly reminding, prompting and checking

  • Homework becomes a nightly battle

  • Packing the school bag becomes your responsibility

  • You know your child is capable of more

  • You find yourself breaking everything down into tiny steps

  • Independence seems much further away than you'd expected

  • You're never quite sure whether to step in or step back

  • Strategies work for a while, then disappear

  • You worry you're nagging — but if you don't remind them, it doesn't happen

  • You feel like you're managing everything for them

The frustration:
“I don't want to keep doing this for them. I want them to be able to do it for themselves.”

Educator

“I can see the potential — but I can't always unlock it.”

  • A student understands the work but can't independently complete it

  • Instructions need to be repeated again and again

  • Organisation and task initiation get in the way of learning

  • Students struggle to manage transitions and changes

  • Behaviour can look like defiance when the underlying issue is skill

  • Teachers are spending more time prompting than teaching

  • Strategies aren't always transferred from one setting to another

  • Learning support can become reactive rather than preventative

  • You're trying multiple approaches but aren't sure what skill you're actually targeting

  • You can see what the student could achieve, but don't know how to bridge the gap

The frustration:
“I know there's more they can do. I just need to work out what's getting in the way — and what will actually help.”

This is the gap The Executive Hub was created to fill.

Not more reminders.
Not another behaviour chart.
Not simply telling someone to “try harder.”
