In collaboration with international expert Vanessa Leaver, The Educational Services Department at Shore are pleased to invite enrolments for Term 2 – 2024 for :
Unlock Executive Functioning Skills - An 8 week Coaching Program for year 7 & year 8 students.
Launched as a joint effort in 2023, the program achieved remarkable success with its first cohort. Tailored exclusively for Year 7 & year 8 students at Shore Grammar, this program offers personalised support in enhancing executive functioning skills. While the program primarily targets Year 7 students, selected Year 8 students may also participate upon invitation.
This program supports students academically and personally by improving organisation, time management, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills through interactive group sessions. Led by an expert, it recognises the importance of executive functioning skills and equips students with tools and strategies to enhance them, fostering independence and responsibility. The goal is to empower students as autonomous, well-organised learners, facilitating success in school and personal endeavours
This is an additional private coaching program that is entirely optional to register for. Attendance is required each week for 8 weeks to maximise the positive impact of the program.

Join the Executive Coaching Program
Please note current group is exclusive to Shore - Sydney Grammar.
This program is all about helping students succeed in school and life by improving their organisation, time management, goal setting, and problem-solving skills. We'll do this through interactive group sessions where students can learn and practice these important abilities.

This covers the comprehensive 8 week program, including all sessions and materials and summary on completion of the course
Also included is the Launch Lunch Workshop - in person event

Limited to 14 students per class {2 x groups available for Term 2}
• By maintaining small group sizes, this ensures that each group receives guidance and supportive practice throughout the program.

Live Workshop Lunch with Vanessa in person at Shore Grammar on the 7th of May 2024. Includes 1 x student ticket and is inclusive of 1 x adult/ parent to attend the workshop.
No discount is applied if parents cannot attend. Additional tickets for parents can be purchased for $45pp

All sessions will be delivered online with a mix of pre-recorded and live Zooms sessions conducted in classroom 20-2-2 These are supported alongside in-person members from Shore Educational Services Team

8 weeks {week 2-10 of Term 2} 30 minutes per week.
• Before school sessions - Tue OR Wed 7:40am – 8:10am
• Each session is designed to address specific executive functioning skills.

About Vanessa
Vanessa is a subject expert in executive functioning and language development, with over a decade of international experience as a speech pathologist. She has successfully operated Speech Pathology clinics in Tokyo, Sydney, and Auckland, with a particular passion for working with high school students. Through her customised coaching programs, Vanessa has helped over 1000 students enhance their language, literacy, and executive functioning skills. Respected by peers and high schools, Vanessa also understands the importance of collaborating with educational staff and parents to ensure her strategies achieve their intended goals.
The Program
Week 1
Introduction to Executive Functioning
We will explore what executive functioning is and how it impacts academic success. Students will gain insights into their own strengths and areas for improvement.
Week 3
Time Management Mastery
Students will learn effective techniques for managing their time, such as creating schedules, prioritising tasks, and overcoming procrastination.
Week 5
Organisation + Checkpoint
Students will develop systems for managing their materials, assignments, and digital resources. They will learn how to keep a neat workspace and utilise tools like planners, calendars, and digital apps.
Week 2
Goal Setting and Planning
Students will learn the importance of setting goals and creating action plans to achieve them. We'll guide them through the process and teach techniques for tracking progress and staying motivated.
Week 6
Learning Style and Study Skills
Students will learn proven methods for active reading, note-taking, and studying. They will discover their personalised learning styles and techniques that work best for them.
Week 8
Metacognition and Reflective Thinking
Students will learn skills to reflect on themselves and become self-aware. They will identify their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for growth.
Week 7
Problem-Solving and Decision Making
Students will engage in activities and discussions to enhance their problem-solving and decision-making skills for overcoming challenges.
Week 4
Task Initiation and Prioritisation
Students will develop skills to start tasks and prioritise effectively. We'll discuss the challenges of task initiation and strategies to overcome procrastination. They will also practice prioritising tasks and setting deadlines.
